This Sunday we will be talking about the BLM and saving our wild horse herds with the author of Straight from the Horse’s Heart, R.T. Fitch!

RT Fitch is an equine author/writer/advocate/BLM pain in the ass. He is also the Volunteer Executive Director of HfH Advisory Council and instigator/funder of current BLM suits.

“Totally transparent, Terry and I with over a decade of horse rescue under our belts, have nothing to hide.” (RT Fitch)

The BLM has been unlawfully and in violation of the 1971 Wild Horse and Burro Act, removing and zeroing out wild horse herds across the Western States. Despite several court orders and pleas to congress, the BLM violates federal law without fear of reprisal. RT, with his wife Terry, have been at the forefront of this battle to save the wild herds.

  1. To R.T.,

” Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,”
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t”, but he wouldn’t be one
Who would say so till he had tried.

So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin
He started to sing as he tackled the thing.
    Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it”

But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
    Without any doubting or quiddit,

He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
    There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle in with a bit of a grin
Just take off your coat and go to it.
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.”

  2. I hope we will see the day that all those horses “that were coming” will turn around and run the other way, back the ranges where they belong. I hope, we as a nation and U.S. citizens, will revolt against the BLM and his employees, helicopter company employees, and see that they get the sentences that they deserve. Why can’t they go from “gather” to end just as they have subjected foals, mares, and stallions to their fate. This agency is running amock, and needs to be stopped. We need to get someone that can get a case that will override anything the BLM can bring forth. Their views are totally wrong. All we need to do is return our wild beautiful horses to their ranges and supplement their feed and water during times of need. They will continue to enjoy their families, and love their environment as they have for years and years. And we, in turn, we have helped our children of future generations see what a beautiful animal we saved from the clutches of those who did not have any empathy, love, or sense. We will win. With quantity, hope, and help of God, we will prevail. THE BLM WILL BE NO MORE. AND ITS HELPERS IN KILLING WILL BE GONE AS WELL,

  3. The deadline for the Winnemucca District RMP is tomorrow (Monday) The comment form is here:

Please include your address and contact info or they can throw your form away.

Please copy and insert the following in your comment:

The following guideline for Wild Horses and Burros should be removed:

Set AML’s at a level that will allow forage plants to complete their life cycle and maintain healthy habitat. Utilization of forage species, which are primarily grasses, should be maintained at a level that will allow these plants to produce seed and new plants to reach maturity. Monitoring should be conducted to determine the amount of utilization and associated resource impacts attributable to each forage user. Adjustments in management of the causal species should be made in proportion to their impacts.

    It should be removed because:

Horses and cattle will both graze on young tender growing grasses and keep them from reaching maturity rather than eating the more mature grasses. Horses are capable of biting the grass much closer than cattle, so the horses will be considered the “causal species” for this problem.

The thing is, this isn’t even a true problem. Both species will eat more mature grasses when the young tender grasses quit growing. Both species will spread seed from the mature plants through their manure. It is a false premise to believe that every area has to produce seed in order to grow grass the next season.

HMA’s are to be managed primarily for the horses and burros so these animals should not be penalized for preventing direct reseeding of some areas. This is the way horses have always grazed. There is nothing wrong with indirect reseeding through the manure. The guideline above should be taken out of this RMP and all others as it is designed to remove horses and is contrary to the WFRHBA.

    • actually cows donot reseed-they digest the food twice..chewing their cud..which is why cow poop is puddles…ever see birds digging and scrathcing in cow manure??/ NO, they do however scratch and dig in horse manure, because they pass seeds and fiber with the manure..cows also lay down as they chew their cud..causing more damage to plants and sprouting seeds..WWP is suing the BLM for illeagle decisions on 30+ RMPs, most of which are in HMAs, for the manner in which they come to these decisions..go WWP!

      • Cows don’t reseed as much, but they do reseed plenty. I have cattle and horses, so I know. I try to raise all my own hay but if I have to buy some you can be sure the cattle pastures will have weeds seeded down that I have eradicated. On the other hand I can feed mixed clover hay in a pasture that needs the clover and the cows will spread that for me.

And yes, the birds do pull corn kernels out of the cow pies. Cows are capable of digesting seeds further than horses, but much of the seed does not go through that process. Most of the fiber does.

      • Public lands cattle are not consuming grains, and the public land allotments are covered in cow pies, I spend considerable time out there, sounds like you are referring to irrigated pastures & hay and grain fed..I have yet to see a cow pie dispersed by anything other than my foot, certainly not by birds..see anything growing up through a cow patty? I have also had both cattle and horses on my ranches, hay would be the distubutor of the weeds, cow manure is a ‘fertilizer” when spred, or harrowed- which is why people prefer it for their gardens over horse manure which is full of partial digested material and seeds..and I am talking arid grazing, not irrigated-there are no human asisted methods used out there, just mother nature

  6. Good show tonite RT. Hopefully we can get more and more coverage in the ongoing effort to educate more and more people. I have really noticed that when people post on blogs to oppose our well researched position it is mainly done thru little or no facts, or outdated at best and through nothing but fear and emotions. Just can’t stand these folks that oppose through nothing but emotions with no scientific basis, bunch of captive bolt huggers/activists “wink, wink”
