  1. Governor Richardson should be a benchmark for ALL representatives – a commitment to PUBLIC service and a willingness to follow his conscience.

We could certainly use a few dozen more like him.

  2. Is this for real!!?? This is the most amazing, awesome thing I’ve heard, next to Madeleine buying a huge ranch just recently! If this doesn’t send a message, loud & clear, nothing will. America has had ENOUGH, & good people are coming to the wild horse’s rescue! Maybe, more able people, including animal loving politicians, or celebrities, or just compassionate people, will do the same. That would be wonderful!! If the White House won’t do anything to stop this wild horse round up insanity, the people can & will!! Thank you Gov. Bill Richardson!!

  4. I believe at one point, Gov Richardson was considered for the Sec of Interior. But he declined as he was committed to his elected position in his state. That is admirable, to keep the promise to serve when elected and I don’t begrudge him that. But can you just IMAGINE how much different things in BLM might be right now if he had been put in that Secretary’s position?

We MUST support this man in every way possible. And let’s make sure the whole country knows how beloved he is to wild horse advocates. In the future, he could still be a candidate for LEADING a humane and scientific approach to CHERISHING and PROTECTING our wild ones while also capitalizing on eco-tourism opportunities and the RIGHTS of citizens to have these lovely wild creatures in our wild places.

I wrote 2 letters, first to his office via his online form and later to this effort. It is worth the effort and I hope everyone will do that same.

I e-mailed and did a REAL snail mail letter. Something I haven’t done for ages.

    • I’m laughing at the “snail mail” comment….it is unusual but I felt that his actions warranted a real note, if time permitted etc. Thank you for sending both notes Shirley! They are adding up!

  6. YES, I DO SAY THANK YOU GOVERNOR RICHARDSON. IF WE HAD MORE MEN LIKE HIM IN WASHINGTON WE WOULD NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH OUR WILD HORSES THAT WE HAVE TODAY AND THEY WOULD BE MANAGED CORRECTLY. TO BAD OBAMA CAN NOT PUT HIM IN AS SECRETARY OF DOI AND BLM. THIS IS THE TYPE OF MAN YOU CAN RESPECT AND WOULD ALWAYS CONSIDER THE PEOPLE HE REPRESENTS.

  8. I called a couple of people in New Mexico and asked about the purchase of this land. I was told that Richardson has NOT purchased it as there was such a hue and cry and that he is going to put off the purchase until after the election. I’m going to go back and see what I can find on this and will let you know more.

    • According to the Albuquerque Journal as of 10/4 this land has not been purchased. I applaud his thinking of the wild horses and recognizing the need for the horses to remain on the land but this is not a done deal by any means.

  9. I applaud Governor Richardson. He should have been President or at least VP to Clinton and we would not be in this mess. I sent him an email early on when they were discussing rounding up the Wild Horses at Placitas, NM on both sides of I -25. I suggested he start a sanctuary, hell he may have listened. Way better than what Washington is doing. They all have there agendas, especially the current Prez. Obama is fixing to get change in the November elections..

  11. God Bless You Governor Richardson. At least you have been listening to our cries for help in saving these gorgeous animals that are part of our legacy. I would love to see Salazar AND ALL OF HIS CRONIES AND THEIR HELICOPTER COMPANIES TOSSED TO THE WOLVES. iF THEY were put in a helicopter over Death Valley, I would volunteer to do the pushing. Their acts on these animals is atrocious and they sould be punished to the fullest extent of the law for their cruelty. Why can’t all you policticians take the lead of Governor Richardson, and for once, do something that we, your constutients, want you to do. This should be done immediately. It seems all of the politicians, except Governor Richardson, only does what is good for their reelection, whether it is good for the people of the United States and their wishes for these beautiful animals.
Again, thank you Governor Richardson. May you be the catayst for something big to help these beloved animals.

  13. The video was wonderful and sad. I haven’t got the words to describe how I feel about what is happening to America’s wild horses. It almost feels to me, when I look at this fight, that it is for so much more than just the survival of those magnificent horses. It feels like the last stand of everything that is good and decent in America and if you lose this fight you are going to find yourselves living in a nightmare from that point on. Lost forever in the darkness sweeping your land and your lives.

  15. I’ve just been researching the Land purchase. It in part a “ranch” that belonged to the Ball family of glass canning jar fame. Gov. Richardson’s plan is to use part of the huge stimulus money gotten from the government. He wants to build a wonderful recreation facility there including the sancturary. The plan is definite, but must be approved by the State Finance Committee (of which he is the head, I believe-and he has appointed the people on the board.)
The ruckus comes from the fact that the state is in deep financial trouble. They are cutting funds for child care among other things. People are complaining that he cares more about wildlife than children.
The per cent of the stimulus budget that he is using for the purchase is .07…
He has already allocated much more to state projects.
If you google Gov. Richardson land purchase, you can read all the pros and cons. Unfortunately most of the complainers are in the lead.
The only thing that bothers me is that one person said it would only accomodate 40+ horses!!!????
    Hope our letters help
