Alleged Pro-Horse Organizations admit to funding by known Horse Slaughter Buyers

"Dave Duquette and Sue Wallis working the phones and getting things done during a break in the action at the Oklahoma City Bucking Stock Sale." - Up to their necks with killer buyers

HOUSTON – (SFTHH)  In a recent promotional email, Wyoming Rep. Sue Wallis, Executive Director of the United Organizations of the Horse and Dave Duquette of the United Horseman’s Front display photos of their participation with and boast about receiving donations from known horse slaughter buyers (aka killer buyers).

Although Wallis and Duquette claim that their organizations’ collective missions are to promote the humane and ethical treatment of horses they continue to lobby for the return of horse slaughter plants in the United States. Their alleged support base remains unclear but their opponents are known to all as outlined in a UOH press release, last month (response here). Wallis and Duquette pointed an accusatory finger at dozens of well known artists, humanitarians and horsemen alleging that they are all receiving money from the HSUS for their humane stances and efforts to save the U.S. wild horse and the passage of legislation that will stop horse slaughter in the U.S. once and for all. Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Pat Parelli and dozens of others (partial listing here) were singled out by Wallis and Duquette while the horse industry watched in obvious disbelief.

Wallis and Duquette’s most recent promotional email was launched just days after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced new restrictions on the slaughter of horses for human consumption. Up to 100,000 U.S. horses were shipped across the borders to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered for Japanese and European markets in 2009. Although the last three foreign owned U.S. horse slaughter plants were shuttered in 2007 the business of selling U.S. horses, both wild and domestic, as food animals has remained an active industry in our neighboring countries. The new restrictions will require an accurate health and drug record of the horse for at least the past six months and threatens to shut down the illicit trafficking of living U.S. horses across the border for slaughter. Exact numbers of U.S. horses slaughtered are not available as they are not tracked because the USDA does not recognize horses as food animals

Wallis and Duquette openly flaunt the fact that they participate in activities at the Simon Bucking Stock Sale which is owned and operated by Joe Simon a very well known and prominent Killer Buyer for Beltex who runs hundreds of horses across the border for slaughter every month. The mixed message that is sent by such unions makes it difficult for the public to associate the Wallis and Duquette organizations with anything related to their purported stances on humane and ethical treatment of horses.
In their most recent attacks, Wallis and Duquette have set their sights squarely on the endangered American wild horse. Both Wallis and Duquette assert that the native horses are feral in nature and if that were to be correct they have removed the horses from the Canadian slaughter market as there will forever remain the doubt that these feral horses could have been injected with drugs that are forever banned by the Canadian Inspection Agency.

Elected public servant Rep. Sue Wallis runs her organization out of Wyoming while horse trainer and breeder David Duquette operates his group out of Oregon.

  1. These “humans” are despicable. Nothing but callous, greedy, heartless and soulless excuses for people. They should not even be allowed to own an animal. Makes me ashamed of my own species. My wild horses have more courage, loyalty and integrity than they do. What on earth were their childhoods like to make them this way?

  2. No surprise to see that they are being funded by kill buyers. These people aren’t interested in the welfare of horses, only the money they can make from them…including blood money for their meat.

  3. That IS true, R.T. If, as SlaughterSue contends, that the horses are “estrays” from the ranches, there would have to be doubt about their drug history.

But, wild or not, the BLM has shot the mares full of PZP – a permanent no no. In their own comments about Calico, they mention giving horses bute – another no no. If they have gelded all the stallions over the years, I’ll bet they gave them some bute. No telling what else – they say they worm them. What ya bet it’s ivermectin?

There has to be clear doubt about drugs for the Mustangs too. Too bad!

  4. There are few places one may find all this information. I am so glad that you are all here and this is out in the open. Many people continue to be confused by this. Passing the bill and getting the trucks stopped will be a happy day. The blood money can end. mar

  5. R.T.: These 2 individuals believe horse slaughter IS HUMANE….from the “why” the equines end up at kill, through and to the actual CBG process….to humans eating the meat.

They think they are consistent with their position. Horse slaughter is humane in their minds. The more plants, especially in the US (because we all know WE ALWAYS had the most humane and better regulated slaughter!), the better for all those poor, neglected, starved, sick, old, lame, crazy, unwanted equines(did I leave any adjective out???)
