Opinion: Thoughts on “Summit of the Horse”

The goal of this conference stated “The sole purpose …convene the horse industry…bring together different perspectives…find pragmatic, sustainable, economically viable solutions for horses both domestic and wild.”

A look at the objectives and sponsors of the hosting organization, United Horsemen, of this conference infers this is a group of horse people united around a common goal. Yet if one were to look closely at the sponsors of this conference one would see all groups are not primarily involved with horses.

“Summit of the Horse” a Misnomer

As it turns out, the attendance at the “Summit of the Horse” now going on at a Las Vegas casino, is, as one commentator described, “sparse” with merely dozens of people present instead of the hundreds expected by organizer Wy. State Rep. Sue Wallis.

Wallis had hoped to use the “Summit” as a platform to call for the return of commercial horse slaughter to the U.S. which would, in turn, aid her in her personal plans to operate a horse slaughter facility in Wyoming.

Duquette’s Hometown Mayor Says Horse Slaughter Stinks

“As of late, Dave Duquette, alleged president of the anti-horse/pro-slaughter organization United Horsemen, has been touting the prospect of destroying his local community of Hermiston Oregon by opening up a predatory horse slaughter plant virtually right in his own backyard. With wide-sweeping boasts of acquiring land, in town, and plans to build a multimillion dollar plant for a product with no market Duquette has run into some local resistance from not only the mainline townsfolk but from the very town mayor himself. Duquette, along with his partner in horse butchering Sue Wallis, is hell bent on acquiring attention and grasping a spotlight, or even a flashlight, with no regard to whether the attention is positive or negative. But one thing is now glaringly true, we have been saying it for years and now it comes to us in bold print, “Horse Slaughter Stinks, right along with Duquette and Wallis; it’s enough to make you lose your lunch” ~ R.T.

Federal Horse Rustlers & the Agenda 21 Hustle

To begin with, the National Association of Conservation Districts (the “mother” of all Conservation Districts) is partnering in a way that promotes IUCN and ICLEI USA, thus pushing Agenda 21, the UN’s action plan that will do away with your private property rights and Constitutional rights.

The Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board meeting (April 2012), was the first meeting including Sec. of Interior Ken Salazar’s new appointee, Callie Hendrickson. Hendrickson has served as an Executive Board member of the National Association of Conservation Districts, and works for the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation District in Colorado.

Update: A Wild Horse Visit to Oklahoma

Last week Lauryn and I attended Summit of the Live Horse in Oklahoma City, organized by our friend and a true friend of all horses, Simone Netherlands of Respect4Horses. Our summit was scheduled to coincide with the Summit of the Horse, an event many of us affectionately refer to as the “Slaughterhouse Summit” or “The Summit of the Dead Horse.” Then, just a couple weeks out, the organizers of the pro-slaughter affair called off their event. We hope it was for lack of support!

Breaking News: Summit of the Slaughter Horse Canceled

In a vague and jumbled press release, Quarter Horse trainer, Dave Duquette announced that the 2nd Annual Summit of the Horse, which was touted to be held in Oklahoma City next week, will be “rescheduled” to sometime in January of next year. Doubt and defeat of Duquette and Sue Wallis’ attempts to reintroduce foreign owned horse slaughter houses into the U.S. have dogged the duo as they try to convince a doubting American public that butchering and eating companion animals and pets is a good thing.

Animals’ Angels: Dennis Chavez Slaughter Horse Feedlot in New Mexico

Six years of cruelty investigations have made it absolutely clear: Horse slaughter means a free pass, in effect, kill buyer amnesty for abuse, neglect and animal cruelty. But never has one single location screamed horse slaughter’s cruelty more than at our March 10 investigation. Horse after horse after horse – yet completely typical of what goes on unabated in the slaughter pipeline. No feeling person could help but be heartbroken, and very angry.

Petition: Tell Interior Secretary to Dump Pro-Wild Horse Slaughter Appointee

The Secretary of the Interior has, for the second time in a row, selected an openly pro-horse slaughter person to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board. Callie Hendrickson, an anti-wild horse activist, pro-horse slaughter proponent, has been selected to represent the interests of the ‘General Public’ on the board.
